Reinventing the Ford Focus
For 2013, Ford is offering a totally reinvented Focus—the Ford Focus ST. This vehicle is for drivers that want to stand out from the compact-car crowd and take command of an affordable 252-horsepower four-door hatchback. Keep reading to see how Ford vamped up the Focus to produce the impressive Ford Focus ST.
2.0L Turbocharged Engine
Able to achieve a remarkable 252 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque through its compact EcoBoost engine, the Ford Focus ST is both peppy and efficient. Highway fuel economy comes in at an impressive 32 mpg, while the Focus ST’s zero to sixty time of 6.5 seconds makes the competition look like horse-drawn carriages by comparison. And because of its turbocharger, the Focus ST’s torque is able to come in right off the line at 2,000 RPM.
Engaging Handling
To make the Ford Focus eligible to receive the “ST” badge, engineers spent time refining the Focus’s limited slip differential and steering systems. The new Torque Vectoring Control system, for example, is a new, lightweight electronic system on the Ford Focus ST that applies slight braking force to the inside wheels during cornering so that the car is more controlled and confident. Combine this with the electronic steering system and you’ve got a fun-to-drive Focus that feels self-assured on the road.
High-Performance Upgrades
There are a lot of new features that give the Ford Focus ST a performance advantage over the competition. These high-performance upgrades include wide Goodyear Eagle F1 tires, a sports-tuned rear suspension with a new anti-roll bar, custom shocks and springs that lower the Focus ST’s center of gravity to improve handling, and a less-intrusive stability control system. The vehicle also features dual center exhaust pipes, a full aero kit, 18-inch wheels, aluminum pedals, and custom headlights for an exotic, sporty look.
